CranioSacral Therapy for Children

Childhood is a time of growing and exploring — of bumps and bruises, big feelings, busy days and not enough sleep. Most of the time, children bounce back quickly. But sometimes the body holds onto things longer than we’d expect, and what looks like a behavioural challenge, a sleep problem or a persistent physical complaint may have a physical root that hasn’t yet been found.

CranioSacral therapy is a gentle, light-touch approach that helps children’s bodies release tension and find their natural balance again. Many parents are surprised by how calm and settled their child feels after a session — and how those changes carry forward into daily life at home and at school.

Is your child struggling in ways that are hard to explain?

Parents often arrive having already tried many other avenues. Their child may have seen specialists, tried medication, or been through assessments — and while those things have their place, something still doesn’t feel quite right. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone, and there may be more that can be done.

CranioSacral therapy doesn’t treat conditions in isolation. It works with the whole child — supporting their nervous system, releasing tension held in the body, and helping them move from a state of stress and overwhelm into one of calm and ease. When a child feels more settled in their body, everything else tends to follow.

How CranioSacral therapy can help your child

Anxiety and emotional overwhelm Many children today are carrying more stress than their small bodies know how to process. Anxiety can show up as clinginess, outbursts, difficulty separating, or a child who simply can’t seem to wind down. CranioSacral therapy works directly with the nervous system, gently encouraging it out of that constant state of high alert. Many parents notice their child seems softer, more reachable, and easier to comfort after sessions.

ADD and ADHD For children who struggle to focus, sit still, or regulate their behaviour, the nervous system is often working overtime. CranioSacral therapy can help bring a greater sense of calm and groundedness — not by suppressing your child’s energy, but by helping their body find a more settled baseline from which to engage with the world. It works gently alongside any other support your child is already receiving.

Sensory processing challenges Children who are easily overwhelmed by noise, touch, light or busy environments are often living with a nervous system that is stuck in overdrive. CranioSacral therapy can help ease that heightened sensitivity over time, making daily life — school, social situations, family outings — feel a little more manageable for everyone.

Sleep difficulties A child who struggles to fall asleep, wakes frequently, or never seems truly rested is exhausting for the whole family. Sleep problems in children are often rooted in an unsettled nervous system that simply can’t switch off. Gentle CranioSacral work can help your child’s body find its way to the kind of deep, restorative rest they need to grow and thrive.

What to expect

Children often take to CranioSacral therapy very naturally. The touch is so light that many children barely notice it — some chat throughout, some drift off to sleep, and some simply lie quietly and let their bodies do what they need to do. Patricia has a calm, unhurried way with children that puts even the most hesitant child at ease.

You are welcome to stay with your child throughout the session. For younger children this is usually preferred; older children sometimes like a little independence — Patricia will take her cues from your child.

Sessions last approximately one hour. Patricia will follow up by email in the days afterwards, and you are always welcome to reach out with any questions.

How many sessions will my child need?

This varies from child to child, and Patricia will talk you through what she is finding as she goes. For some children, a noticeable shift happens quickly. For others — particularly where challenges have been present for a long time — a short course of sessions works best, followed by periodic maintenance visits as needed.

Many families find that regular CranioSacral sessions become a valued part of their child’s overall wellbeing — much like any other health check-up, but one their child actually looks forward to.
