CranioSacral Therapy for Babies & Infants — Fairfield, CT

“As the twig is bent, so grows the tree.”

This old proverb, beloved by the founders of osteopathic medicine, speaks to something that every parent instinctively understands: the earliest experiences shape everything that follows. The journey of being born — however it unfolds — places real physical demands on a tiny body. Compression, twisting, and the effort of moving through the birth canal can leave patterns of tension in a baby’s neck, head, spine and jaw that, without support, they may simply learn to compensate around.

CranioSacral therapy offers a gentle way to help your baby release those tensions early — so they can feed more comfortably, sleep more soundly, and settle into the world with a little more ease.

Could CranioSacral therapy help your baby?

Many parents come to Patricia after weeks of trying everything — different feeding positions, winding techniques, reflux remedies — without finding lasting relief. If your baby seems uncomfortable, unsettled, or is struggling to feed well, there may be a physical reason that hasn’t yet been addressed.

CranioSacral therapy works by using the lightest of touches to listen to your baby’s body and gently encourage any areas of tension to release. It is completely safe, entirely drug-free, and so gentle that many babies simply relax and fall asleep during a session.

Some of the most common reasons parents bring their babies to Patricia include:

Colic and persistent fussiness A baby who cries inconsolably, arches their back, or seems impossible to settle is an exhausted, worried parent’s daily reality. While colic can have many causes, tension held in the body from in utero or birth is often an overlooked factor. Many parents notice a significant shift in their baby’s comfort and contentment after just one or two sessions.

Feeding difficulties — breast or bottle Feeding difficulties are one of the most common reasons families seek CranioSacral therapy for their baby. Tension in the jaw, neck or base of the skull can make latching, suckling and swallowing harder than it should be — and more tiring for your baby. Patricia’s background as both a CranioSacral therapist and an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant means she can look at feeding from both angles at once, addressing the structural factors that other consultants may not be able to reach.

Torticollis — a head that prefers one side If your baby consistently turns their head to one side, seems stiff in their neck, or has developed a flat spot on one side of their head, this may be a sign of torticollis — tension in the neck muscles or nerve strain that makes turning uncomfortable. Left unaddressed, this can affect feeding, sleep position and head shape. Gentle CranioSacral work can help release that tension, often with visible results after just a few sessions. Patricia’s before and after photos show the kind of changes that are possible.

Other reasons parents bring their babies include:

  • Reflux and digestive discomfort
  • Plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome)
  • Difficulty with tummy time
  • Unsettled sleep
  • Pre and post lip or tongue tie revision

What does a session look like?

If you’ve never seen CranioSacral therapy before, it can look surprisingly gentle — so gentle, in fact, that parents sometimes wonder if anything is happening at all. It is. Patricia’s trained hands are listening to your baby’s body with great care and precision.

Your baby can be held on Patricia’s lap, laid on a soft blanket, or cradled in your arms — whatever feels most natural and comfortable for them. Sessions follow your baby’s lead entirely. There are natural breaks for feeding and nappy changes, and you will be with your baby throughout.

Before and after each session, Patricia takes a photograph. These are for you and for her — a way of seeing together the changes that occur in your baby’s posture, alignment and comfort. Many parents are moved by what they notice in those two images side by side.

Sessions last approximately one hour. Patricia will check in with you by email a day or two afterwards, and you are always welcome to reach out with questions.

How many sessions will my baby need?

Every baby is different. Some parents notice a meaningful change after a single session; for others, particularly where tensions have been present since early in pregnancy, a short course of sessions works best. Patricia will discuss what she is finding as she goes, and together you will decide on the approach that feels right.

Once the changes you’re looking for have been achieved, many families choose to bring their baby back periodically for maintenance — much as you might visit any other health professional for a check-up.
