How CranioSacral Therapy Helped A Baby’s Torticollis

Torticollis – also known as “wryneck” is a condition in which an infant, child or adult  either has difficulty or is unable to fully rotate their neck fully.

In infants, parents often report that their baby’s head is always facing in one direction. Sometimes they have feeding difficulties at one breast only or will feed only in one arm with a bottle.

Torticollis can be caused by various things that we know about and probably more that we don’t. Things we know – positioning in utero – space can be tight restricting movement and leading to the body being “stuck” in one position.  Strain during delivery. Muscular tension in the sternocleidomastoid muscle – one side being longer or tighter than the other. Tension on the Cranial Accessory Nerve which provides motor function to those muscles. Muscular, fascial or visceral tension in the body. Ankyloglossia can cause muscular or nerve tension that could cause torticollis.

CranioSacral therapies’ light touch is used to locate and help release these tension patterns in the muscles, tissue, organs, fascia and nerves to enable signaling to move freely. Removing restrictions will enable the body to function optimally.
