What does a CranioSacral session with an Infant look like?

craniosacral session with infant

When I work with an infant, I start by laying the baby on his or her back and taking a photo – this is for the family and myself only – I will ask the family if I want to use the photo for teaching or on my website. The object of the photo is so what the family and I can look at the body before and after treatment in order to see the differences.

Similar to working with adults, it may take more than one session for improvements to be seen or felt. Our goal is that once we have achieved the changes that we are looking for than you will come for maintenance as needed.

We can hold tension over long periods of time – in an infant the tension may have started at some time in utero, while some may occur during delivery. If it started in utero there may be a longer accumulation of strains or tensions.

When I work with an infant, sometimes I hold them on my lap, sometimes I place them on a blanket and sometimes they will be held in one of their parents’ arms. In some sessions we do all of these. This is driven by what the baby wants and needs. Breaks are taken naturally for feedings and diaper changes.

I place my hands on your little one to enable me to “listen” with my hands for places of strain or tension – these may be in muscle, tissue, fascia or even in the organs. I am also “listening” for fluid flow being unrestricted – be it blood, lymph cerebrospinal or interstitial fluids. All of these fluids are involved with bringing nutrients and oxygen to various systems and removing toxins.

Sessions are approximately an hour in length. As you the parent are with your infant all the time, I rely on your feedback on the changes you see and feel. We are working together as a team.
